Regulus Black struggled in novice and maiden company but took a huge step forward to finish third when upped to 1m2f on handicap debut earlier this month. Further improvement seems likely and this is an excellent opportunity to get off the mark.
Alfaraz finished second on both occasions last season and ran better than his finishing position suggests in a good race at Newbury last month. This is a very winnable novice and Andrew Balding’s colt should be very hard to beat.
Richard Hannon’s Cayman Tai could hardly have been more impressive when stretching clear to score by four lengths at Southwell last time out. A 5lb penalty is unlikely to make much difference if the four-year-old is in similar form here and victory is anticipated.

Ski Angel absolutely bolted up off a 1lb lower mark at Musselburgh back in October and if Mike Smith’s mare can produce a similar performance here, there’s a good chance of a return to winning ways.
Ajrad has a very good record here at Chepstow and the three-time course winner is sliding down the weights. His last success came off a mark of 60 at Bath in September and he’s entitled to be competitive off 3lb lower here.
Karl Burke always does well with his two-year-olds and Tamam Star should be going close here. He wasn’t beaten far when fourth on debut at Musselburgh and the form of his third at Thirsk earlier this month has received a boost. That form makes him the one to beat.
Kode Grey produced a much improved performance to finish third on handicap debut at Ripon earlier this month and the son of Kodi Bear can build on that. The handicapper has left his mark alone and further progress seems very likely here.
Taylormade Lad remains relatively lightly raced and the four-year-old got off the mark with a game success over course and distance in August. Michael Dods’ gelding was third on his reappearance and can go close if stepping forward for that run here.
Glorious Kitty earned a first career success when scoring by just shy of a length at Ayr recently and she can go close once again, despite a 4lb rise. Lewis Chalkley is in the saddle once again and gets the full benefit of his 7lb claim this time around.
