Our tipsters' strongest bets for this meeting

Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton Handicap (Class 5)
Compas Scoobie silk

Compas Scoobie

COMPAS SCOOBIE won well two starts ago and was far from disgraced in his bid to follow up last time when an excellent second. He remains on a very handy mark and looks unlikely to bump into anything as progressive as he did last time so is handed a confident vote to make it two wins from his last three starts. Top Boy has won here before and is looking to complete a double so rates the main danger ahead of Lucky Lodge.

Wolverhampton Disco Inferno - 24th November Nursery Handicap (Div I) (Class 6)
Havana Sunset silk

Havana Sunset

HAVANA SUNSET has taken a sizable step forward with each run, his best effort coming over course and distance. He went from the front there, well berthed to use those tactics again on a fair looking opening mark on that run. Stellar Comet has been given a break after three quick runs for a mark, she may need an extra furlong to be seen to best effect but is a nice recruit. Coastguard Watch is worth keeping an eye on to see if his sole synthetics run was his true form, he’s in the mix if it is.

Wolverhampton Disco Inferno - 24th November Nursery Handicap (Div II) (Class 6)
Smart Illusion silk

Smart Illusion

SMART ILLUSION won well when given a soft lead at Musselburgh two starts back and has a decent draw from which to make the running once more. He showed synthetics were no concern last time out and should have more to come. Pesci is the other who may race on the pace but is drawn to the outside of the selection. He still has a place chance in a weak looking contest.

attheraces.com Handicap (Class 4)
Plentyinthetanksir silk

David Simcock’s PLENTYINTHETANKSIR looked to be a handicapper going places when bolting up two starts ago at Chelmsford by three lengths and was possibly unlucky last time out when third doing all his best work at the finish. With his rider’s claim taken into account, he is only one pound higher than his win and can get back to winning ways here. Baltic Prince was third last time having won the time before and is next best.

Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap (Div I) (Class 6)

Poppy Bridgwater and Tony Carroll are having a really good season and can notch up another winner here in the shape of RIGHTWAY. He is a course and distance winner and although he hasn’t been at the top of his game lately he is on an attractive enough mark as a result and can take advantage in a very modest contest. This is pretty open however with Liberisque likely to go well again after two fine seconds.

Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap (Div II) (Class 6)
Lord Murphy silk

Lord Murphy

LORD MURPHY, a course and distance winner here in April, looks set to get back to winning ways after a string of respectable efforts this season. He wasn’t beaten far over an inadequate trip last time out and with the extra furlong and a half sure to suit he looks the one to beat for David Loughnane and Liam Jones. Havana Star was successful recently and can give him most to do while Top Offer also has a recent win to his name.

Black Country Chamber Of Commerce Handicap (Class 5)

A weak-looking finale which can go the way of JAWSHAN who showed plenty on debut but has not quite gone on from that in two starts since. Handicaps have likely always been the plan however and he can get off the mark here in what looks a very winnable contest with Luke Morris doing the steering for George Peckham. The obvious danger looks to be last time out winner Raven’s Raft in a race where few make much appeal.

Tips For Wolverhampton Races

Located 15 miles from Birmingham, Wolverhampton is one of the busiest racing tracks in the UK and Ireland.

Course: One mile in circumference and flat, it has left handed bends which makes it a different to the majority of other tracks in the UK and is always considered when selecting our Wolverhampton tips. Previous experience is a plus.

Draw Bias: Wolves is generally a very fair track with little evidence of draw bias. The one exception is a low draw tends to be preferable to a higher draw over five furlongs.

Surface: The Tapeta surface was laid in 2014, replacing the old fibresand surface. It has won much praise from jockeys and is used on the gallops by some major names including Godolphin. Experience on the surface is another plus which is considered when selecting our tips.

Feature Race:  The Lady Wulfruna Stakes is an All Weather Championship qualifier run in March over seven furlongs. The winner of this Listed class race goes on to compete on All Weather Finals Day at Lingfield a month later.
