Strasbourg Top Trainers & Jockeys

Jumps Top course trainers

Guillaume Macaire has sent a number of his runners to the northeast of France with relative success in recent seasons, saddling 29 winners in the last 5 seasons at Strasbourg.

Over half of Macaire’s 29 wins from the last 5 seasons came in 2018 where he saddled a remarkable 16 winners from 24 runners at a strike-rate of 67%.

Aside from Macaire, who has had success but with infrequent runners, Patrice Quinton is clear next best to follow at the track.

Quinton has saddled more winners than Macaire over the last five seasons with 33 but operates at a considerably lower strike-rate of 30% having had 110 runners across that period.

Trainer                           Runs-Wins                Strike-rate
P Quinton                            12-4                             33%

L Viel                                    3-2                              67%
M Rolland                           4-2                              50%
M Seror                                7-2                              28%

Jumps Top course Jockeys

Three names to follow over the jumps at Strasbourg are Thomas Beaurain, James Reveley and Bertrand Lestrade. These three have been consistent in recent seasons, with both number of winners and their strike-rates at the track.

2018 saw Bertrand Lestrade lead to the way in extraordinary fashion, notching 13 winners from just 16 rides for a strike-rate of 81%.

A typical season at Strasbourg is not that conclusive, with so few races, typically nobody pulls clear, with few winners deciding it.

The top-5 Jumps Jockeys’ stats from the 2019 season can be found below.

Trainer                                   Runs-Wins                Strike-rate
Jean-Stephane Lebrun                5-3                            60%
Angelo Gasnier                             9-3                            33%
Felix De Giles                                8-2                            25%
Maxime Camus                            7-2                            28%
Mlle Nathalie Desoutter             3-2                             67%

Flat Top course trainers

Without the most expansive fixture list at Strasbourg, there is often not much between the leading trainers each season, with a solitary winner usually deciding it.

That said, two trainers, Jess Parize and Mlle Yvonne Vollmer have shared top spot between them in each of the last eight seasons.

Neither trainer has had more than 6 winners at the course in any given year in that period and with numerous trainers just one or two wins behind them each year, it’s hard to draw any strong conclusions.

Henri-Alex Pantall is one of the more commonly known trainers that has seen success at Strasbourg, saddling 3 winners from 7 runs in 2019, so is one to look out for if sending a runner to the course.

The 2019 Top Trainer standings can be found below:

Trainer                                 Runs-Wins                   Strike-rate
Mlle Yvonne Vollmer                27-5                              18.5%
Jess Parize                                45-5                               11.1%
Mme Carmen Bocskai             24-4                              16.7%
Henri-Alex Pantall                      7-3                                42.9%
Sascha Smrczek                        18-3                               16.7%

Flat Top Course Jockeys

Similarly to the flat trainers’ standings, there is often not much between the jockeys at the end of the season.

In the last five seasons, no jockey had ridden more than 6 winners at Strasbourg in a year, with Franck Foresi riding 6 in 2015 and Antoine Coutier in 2018

Despite only riding a solitary winner from 16 rides in 2019, prior to that Antione Coutier had been the most consistent jockey at Strasbourg.

Courtier led the way in three consecutive seasons between 2016-2018, riding 15 winners from 103 rides across that period, a strike-rate of 14.5%.

Despite a quiet season last year, Courtier would still remain the one to follow at Strasbourg, with many in behind him showing no real consistency in winning at the track.

The top-5 Flat Jockeys’ stats from the 2019 season can be found below.

Trainer                       Wins-Runs          Strike-rate
Mlle Sibylle Vogt            4-25                       16%
Ludovic Boisseau           4-18                       22%
Clement Lecoeuvre        2-26                       8%
Mickael Berto                 2-22                        9%
Mlle Lea Bails                 2-10                       20%
