Our tipsters' strongest bets for this meeting

14:45
Topsport Equisand Handicap (Class 5)
Dancing Rave silk

Dancing Rave

Analysis

DANCING RAVE gained the second win of her career when landing a handicap at Thirsk nine-days-ago. She carries a six-pound penalty for that success today, but that looks unlikely to stop her from following up if in the same level of form.

15:20
Slingsby Gin Handicap (Class 4)
Mister Chiang silk

Mister Chiang

Analysis

A chance is taken on MISTER CHIANG bouncing back to his best. Fourteen furlongs was too far for him last time, and his two previous runs in handicap company came in warmer contests than this. Running from a basement mark and dropped back in trip, he can threaten here at a decent price.

15:55
Ripon Races Ladies Day Handicap (Class 3)
Borodin silk

Borodin

Analysis

Richard Fahey’s BORODIN placed in the Spring Cup at Newbury and the Thirsk Hunt Cup when returned from a break, now a pound lower than for those two career best efforts. He was held over this trip last time, however that came in a stronger contest on ground that turned against him. Eased in grade and back on a slower surface, a far better showing can be expected.

16:35
Quilter Private Client Advisers Ladies' Derby Handicap (for Lady Amateur Riders) (Class 6)
Belabour silk

Belabour

Analysis

BELABOUR makes his debut for Kevin Frost today, but rider Becky Brisbourne knows him well, having ridden him to victory in a handicap at Newcastle in January. He ran better than the bare form suggests at Doncaster when last seen in March and remains well treated off this mark if returning to some of his best form.

17:10
Stray FM Celebrating Ladies Day Handicap (Class 5)
Shortbackandsides silk

Shortbackandsides

Analysis

SHORTBACKANDSIDES arrives here on an eight-race losing run, but his last win came over today’s course and distance and he arrives here running off just a two-pound higher mark. His close second at Haydock last time out also hinted that a return to the winners’ enclosure was imminent.

17:45
Inn At South Stainley Handicap (Div I) (Class 6)
Gold Arch silk

Gold Arch

Analysis

This can go the way of GOLD ARCH, who ran out a two-length winner of a handicap at Wolverhampton on his penultimate outing. He found the fast ground against him at Windsor afterwards, but these easier conditions should suit, and first-time blinkers look an interesting addition.

Tips for Ripon Races

Nicknamed the Garden Racecourse, racing has been at the North Yorkshire venue since 1900. It’s a great little Flat only course to attend and was voted ‘Best Small Racecourse in the North’ by the Racegoers’ Club in 2003.

Course: A right-handed oval of a mile and 5 furlongs, it’s sharp in nature and the turns at either end are tight. We like our tips to be either leaders or prominent racers at Ripon as there is a strong advantage to those types.

Draw Bias: Over 5 and 6 furlongs, higher numbers are generally much preferred, except when the ground is soft then the bias doesn’t exist. In mile races low numbers are better for our tips, due to the tight turn it helps to be on the inside rail, especially for a front runner.

Feature Races: Both of Ripon’s major races take place in August. The Champion Two Years Old Trophy, which was worth £30,000 in 2018. Also the Great St. Wilfred is a brilliant, big field 6 furlong handicap which is always fiercely competitive.
