Owen’s Outsiders: 40-1, 33-1 and 18-1 Tuesday horse racing tips

Owen's Outsiders

There are five meetings to look forward too on Tuesday, with Wolverhampton and Pontefract the two afternoon cards. Roscommon, Brighton and Uttoxeter make up the evening action and we’ll have horse racing tips for each venue.

With 37 races lined up, there’s plenty of opportunity to hunt out some value selections. I’ve aimed to do just that with my Tuesday outsiders, as I’ve found three horses who I believe are devilishly overpriced. You can find all the analysis below as I look to kickstart July Cup week in style!

1.35 Wolverhampton – EBC Group Handicap (Div II)

He’s been out of sorts in 2021 and it’s been a long time between drinks, but EXCHEQUER (18-1) is a horse who is more than capable of popping up. Previously trained by Rae Guest, he’s raced on just a pair of occasions for Philip Makin.

Those runs came at Catterick in the spring, ultimately finishing well-held on both occasions. There were positives to take from his most recent start, however, and a return to six furlongs is perhaps in his favour. He’s not been getting home over seven furlongs this year and his most recent victory, albeit back in 2018, came over six.

Rhys Clutterbuck takes over the ride today and his five-pound claim is certainly a big help to this veteran. Drawn well in stall two, he should be able to grab a prominent position early on, and I’d fancy his chances at the placings if Rhys can hold a good position turning in.

4.55 Roscommon – Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle

It’s always very difficult to quantify horses with no form, but this maiden hurdle isn’t strong and I like the chances of CHIEF SEATTLE (33-1) on debut. A flat-bred newcomer, he makes his debut for John Patrick Ryan, who is enjoying a stellar start to the season.

He’s sent out 49 hurdlers since May 2021, with 11 winners equating to a strong strike-rate of 22%. Those winners have also produced a huge level stakes profit of £69.21 and he’s more than capable of readying horses for their opening assignments.

As previously mentioned, he’s a flat-bred son of Casamento and on pedigree, he’s certainly not bred to stay this far. It’s intriguing to me that he’s making his debut over 2m 5f and pitched into a race where there’s a severe lack of substantial form, I think 33-1 is underestimating his chances.

7.35 Brighton – Price Promise At bet365 Handicap

Picked up for just 3,500gns at the Newmarket August Sales, MAP (40-1) is a daughter of Vadamos with a fair pedigree on paper. That makes it all the more disappointing that she’s failed to threaten in four career starts to date, but I’m convinced she’s capable of picking up some lower-grade races.

She was making her handicap debut last time off the back of a 252-day break and getting loose beforehand ended her chance before the race had even begun. She wasn’t given a hard time of things in the straight and that effort over 1m 3f can be forgiven.

Race fitness is now on her side and the excellent five-pound claimer Laura Pearson takes over in the saddle. The mile may prove to be the sweet spot for her in terms of trip and at 40-1, I think she has big run in the locker if things drop right.
