Our tipsters' strongest bets for this meeting

John Lilley Memorial Handicap (Class 6)
Arctic Flower silk

Arctic Flower

Popsicle struggled at Leicester last time out, but she was in winning form on her start prior to that. Thore Hammer Hansen is now back aboard, but preference is for the John Bridger trained ARCTIC FLOWER. This mare was out of form earlier this year, but she finished a respectable fifth at Epsom last time out, and that effort can be upgraded as she was running from six pounds out of the handicap.

starsports.bet/ebf Novice Stakes (Class 5)

Consistent sort who’s 2nd on penultimate start reads well as the winner was runner up in a handicap off 88 subsequently, sets the standard returning to turf.

Happy Birthday Nelly Jolly Handicap (Class 6)
Windsorlot silk

The hat-trick seeking duo Channel Packet and Kirkland Forever warrant respect here, but both have work to do to defy their revised handicap marks. With that in mind, a chance is taken on WINDSORLOT, who finished second over today’s course and distance last month. He is now back racing from his last winning handicap mark and has Poppy Bridgewater (who is operating at a 35% strike-rate at this track this year) booked to ride. The attractively handicapped Sussex Girl is feared most.

The Warrior silk

The Warrior

Thechildren’strust has regressed since making a winning debut and needs the addition of first-time blinkers to spark a revival in form today. He is not completely discounted, but this looks a good opportunity for THE WARRIOR to gain the fourth win of his career. This six-year-old has been running well on the All-Weather recently and if translating that level of form onto turf, he should be tough to beat. Last week’s Pontefract winner Zeshov looks the strongest forecast option.

Call Star Sports On 08000 521 321 Handicap (Div II) (Class 5)

Stormingin has the string of placed efforts by his name at present and the addition of first-time blinkers could bring about some further improvement from him today. Preference is for the Andrew Balding-trained RUX RUXX though, who is a consistent sort and should have more to offer now stepping up to a mile for the first time. Eternal Flame is an interesting contender back in handicap company, and he is feared most.

starsports.bet The Fully Interactive Online Experience Handicap (Class 5)
Arcanista silk

ARCANISTA has won her last three starts (all victories coming over six furlongs here) and a four pounds rise for her latest success should not be enough to stop her from landing the four-timer this afternoon. Shamshon is an interesting contender back in this grade, but the main danger to the selection could come from the handicap debutante Soumei.

Search Seven #share7 Handicap (Class 6)
Everkyllachy silk

The last time out winners Sugar Plum Fairy and Social Butterfly are both contenders here. Of the two, the latter is preferred, but she may struggle to beat EVERKYLLACHY. This filly is currently racing from five pounds below her last winning handicap mark, and the step back up to this trip should bring about some further improvement from her today.

Tips for Brighton Races

Unusual for the fact it doesn’t complete a full circuit, Brighton racecourse is just a mile from the coast and well known for being windy.

Course: A mile and a half U-shape, Brighton is best compared with Epsom. It includes a steep descent and is generally undulating, with sharp bends. Our tips tend to look for handy, quick types as opposed to gallopers with longer strides who take time to get up to speed and can be unbalanced by the course.

Draw Bias: There is no strong evidence of draw bias, although our Brighton tips will give credit to a higher drawn horses when the going is Soft as runners tend to gravitate towards the stands side.

Feature Meeting: The Brighton Festival takes place over three days in early August, featuring a number of competitive races, all of which we will have tips for.
