4 Christmas Themed Outsiders for Boxing Day

Father Christmas at Plumpton Racecourse

Christmas is all about fun. Our free horse racing tips for Boxing Day will be as serious as always but it’s nice to find some fun angles in for those who believe in names and fate. If you’re trying to persuade your other half to sit and watch the racing with you from Kempton and Wetherby on ITV Racing, you may find that watching out for some Christmas appropriate names will maintain their interest longer.

Wincanton, Leopardstown and Wolverhampton are the courses in question for out four themed outsiders which will keep you occupied all afternoon. There are some others like Hollymount Holly in the 11.50 at Wetherby who were too short to make the cut but were well named for this time of year.

12.25 Wincanton – Merry Berry 40/1

Not only a nod to a tv legend but also a very Christmassy name!

She has shown some promise so far, although was a shade disappointing last time out over course and distance. Her yard continue in great form and she is certainly better than she showed last time out.

2.10 Wincanton – Candy Burg 33/1

One thing that it’s hard to escape at Christmastime is candy. It’s everywhere and most of us will have had a breakfast on Christmas day that consists of a chocolate orange haven’t we?

Candy Burg’s mark has dropped like a stone in recent times but he has some form on very deep ground back in the day and the cheekpieces he hated last time are quickly got rid of.

3.25 Leopardstown – Golden Star 40/1

An integral part of the nativity, could the star be guiding us to a big priced outsider to hit the frame?

Tony Martin might not be the first name most would look for in a bumper but he’s had three runners in this race in the last decade, finishing first, second and third. He’s had twenty-one total runners in Leopardstown bumpers for four winners, two seconds and five thirds. That’s some record for a yard not known for having them in this discipline.

4.05 Wolverhampton – Tawny Port 16/1

No matter how full one is after smoked salmon, turkey and Christmas pudding, there is always room for a cheeseboard and a glass of port, or four!

Tawny Port is one of the more exposed in here but his recent efforts have been smart. The wide outsider of the field here but his most recent run entitles him to far more respect than that with five of his nine career wins coming in fields of seven or smaller.
