It was a monstrous performance to win on chase debut over course and distance last month, as that was his first start for 712 days. Improvement was evident at Newbury last time, when he made a mockery of a seemingly competitive race. Despite being hit with a 10lb rise, there should be more to come.

Pemberley probably found the going a bit too quick for him when running poorly in his last two starts on good ground. There’s a touch of soft in the description here which could inspire a return to form. He finished second in a better race than this at Lingfield in November and he looks dangerous here off a 10lb lower mark.

This looks like a competitive event with no fewer than four last time out winners in the six-runner field. Joe Tizzard’s gelding is completely unexposed, having had just three starts over hurdles so far. It was a brilliant effort when second by a length to subsequent winner Killaloan on handicap debut last time out. He should improve for the experience and looks well capable of getting off the mark in this sort of race.
