Trouble Shooter silk

Trouble Shooter

Baron Run has posted two solid efforts over seven furlongs at this venue this year, and is of interest upped in trip, three-pounds lower than when placing last-time. Molten Lava scored on his second attempt at this venue, before placing under a three-pound rise on Polytrack. He can return to form after a poor run last-time. Those two are shortlisted, although a chance is taken on the unexposed TROUBLE SHOOTER. He looked a different animal in a first-time visor last-time, finishing a staying on fifth over seven furlongs on his first start at this venue. Now seven-pounds below his opening mark, and with improvement within him stepped up to a mile, he can go well at a decent price.

Thunder Buddy

Newstead Abbey scored over six here last-time and is of interest returned to seven. Bond Angel is two-from-two over course and distance, and was denied by a head over a mile here last-time. She looks sure to go well once more, although a chance is taken on THUNDER BUDDY. He posted a career-best over track and trip three starts back, for which he is just three-pounds higher. He wasn’t suited by the mile after that, and was behind one who was chucked in after that on Tapeta. Returned to this venue, with cheekpieces enlisted, he can go well at an each-way price.

Betway Maiden Stakes (Class 5)

So Hi Speed is the higehst-rated, but has regressed since placing in May. He should prove vulnerable to KADIZ. Rated seven-pounds inferior but with her jockey claiming three and her getting a fillies’ allowance, she is well-treated by these weights. She placed on track debut last-time, beaten less than two-lengths by one who has gone in again. She has placed in her last three, and can finally get off the mark here. Abbi Dab, running for an in-form yard and related to a few useful performers, is the most likely of the debutantes to get involved.

Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap (Class 4)

Crosse Fire has been in respectable form this year and should find this trip more suitable than the seven furlongs he raced over last time out. He is respected, but preference is for the Derek Shaw trained TOP BOY. This son of Exceed And Excel was by no means disgraced at Chelmsford last time out, and a strong pace to aim at here can see him pick off his rivals late on. The Great Wall looks the strongest forecast option if the addition of first-time cheekpieces sparks a revival in form.

Betway Casino Handicap (Class 5)

A course and distance winner two starts ago, LOVE RAT only found a runaway winner too strong back here last time off a pound higher. He remains lightly raced after only twelve starts and further improvement can be expected over this trip. Epitaph won a claimer when last seen and has live claims if backing that up now he’s back in handicaps.

Gorgeous General

GORGEOUS GENERAL is on a roll at present, winning three of his last four starts. He scored over further here on his latest outing by a neck, with the front-pair pulling five lengths clear of the remainder. He escapes a penalty for that and will be very tough to beat if matching that effort under good seven-pound claimer William Carver.

Tips for Southwell Races

Southwell is one of only 6 All-Weather tracks in the UK and is the only one with a Fibresand surface, therefore making it a unique course.

Surface: The Fibresand is different to other artificial surfaces in Britain, it’s more similar to dirt. It’s quite deep and therefore puts an emphasis on stamina for our tips. Horses that aren’t quite fit enough can get caught out.

Course: A mile and a quarter left-handed circuit with a straight 5 furlong chute.

Draw Bias: Over 5 furlongs it’s better for our tips to be drawn in the low numbered stalls. These are nearer the centre of the track and that is the supposed faster section.
