York Ebor Festival: Day 1 Tips and Odds

One of the biggest Festivals on the flat racing calendar, York’s Ebor Meeting kicks off on Wednesday. We’re treated to some incredible racing on the first day, with the Juddmonte International being the headline contest. Ghaiyyath, Magical, Kameko and Lord North will all do battle for the coveted prize.

York Ebor Festival Day 1 Tips

The feature contest is the 2020 Juddmonte International and Magical makes the trip over for Aidan O’Brien. She’s been a special mare over the years, winning six Group 1 races, including a pair this season. She receives three pounds from two of her main rivals and has looked better than ever this term. She’s unlikely to give Ghaiyyath and easy time of things and that pressure may make Charlie Appleby’s charge crack in the closing stages.

The Acomb Stakes is the first group race on the card and Kevin Ryan’s Darvel looks a smart prospect. He bounced back from a modest debut when scoring impressively at Ayr and he looks set to relish a step up to seven furlongs. Ryan has his string in superb form and there is a huge amount to like about his chances.

The huge reputation of Darain is on the line in the Great Voltigeur. A remarkable 3,500,000gns purchase, his pedigree is something special. He’s a brother to Too Darn Hot, So Mi Dar and Lah Ti Dar, so has some illustrious company to keep. He’s ground out comfortable successes over ten furlongs in novice company and this step up twelve furlongs should unlock more from this highly-touted John Gosden inmate.
