Racing returns to flat headquarters this afternoon as Newmarket takes centre stage for the first day of the delayed Guineas meeting. There are six races comprised of unraced two-year-olds on the card which look interesting puzzles. To try and help solve them, let’s see what the trainers of some of the runners have to say.
Mick Channon, Mahale – “I think Mahale is a really nice filly and is a half-sister to that good horse Opal Tiara.”
James Tate, Sense Of Romance – She “goes nicely, she’s a filly I like so I’m expecting a big run.”
Richard Spencer, Wings Of A Dove – She’s “a nice Dark Angel filly. It’s a nice starting point over five furlongs and hopefully, she’ll run a good race, but whatever she does she’ll improve on. “
Marco Botti, Angels Will Rise – “She’s got plenty of ability even if she is a little bit small. She’s well balanced so I think she’ll handle the course well. We don’t know what we’re taking on but hopefully, she can run well.”
Mick Channon, Chattri – “Well-bred….work has been good and I’d say…fit enough to do herself justice.
Simon Crisford, Zamaani – “Worked to a nice level, but these are going to be tough contests.”
Charlie Appleby, Magical Land – “I particularly like the Frankel colt Magical Land. He’s from a family with natural pace.”
Hugo Palmer, Northbound – “Been ready for a little bit of time but we don’t gas our two-year-olds and they normally come on for the run. Been on the watered gallop so should handle the undulations.”
Charlie Hills, Give ‘Em The Slip – “I think quite highly of her. It’s hard to be massively confident as they’re going to be competitive races.”
James Tate, Risk Of Thunder – “ Is another filly I really like and she’s been going well at home.”
Richard Spencer, Ocean Eyes – She “has been working with Wings Of A Dove. We haven’t pressed any buttons with either and we’re looking forward to learning more about them.
