Three horses set to thrive in first time headgear form 329-1 treble

Monday’s racing comes from five venues, so there’s no shortage of action to kick off the week! Carlisle, Ffos Las, Redcar, Leicester and Windsor are the hosts, and we’ll have horse racing tips from all five tracks.

When looking for winners, one crucial angle to consider is horses in first time headgear. When a trainer applies the right piece of headgear, it can prompt significant improvement and the connections of these three horses will be hoping for that to be the case. 1.55 Redcar – Celtic Empress

Far too keen in her opening three races, David O’Meara will be hoping the hood can help settle Celtic Empress. She’s a horse with obvious talent, running well on both her juvenile starts, and she was backed off the boards on seasonal return at Thirsk earlier this month.

She once again pulled her chance away, but the fact she’s now fitted with headgear for her handicap debut is very interesting. An opening mark of 68 is far from harsh if the hood does have the desired effect and with the in-form Danny Tudhope retaining the ride, a big effort has to be expected.

2.45 Carlisle – Soaring Star

Having run well without quite managing to score in two starts this year, the cheekpieces could be just the ticket for Soaring Star. On both his starts in 2021, he’s arrived on the scene when the race was over and the fitting of cheekpieces should help him travel with more enthusiasm in the early stages.

He’ll be granted a strong pace to aim at in this big-field handicap, which will suit, as will the step up to the mile distance. There’s plenty in his favour today and with Kevin Stott, who rode him for his sole victory, back in the plate, he looks set to go close at tempting odds.

6.35 Leicester – Thaler

When Sir Michael Stoute applies the tongue-tie, it tends to have the desired effect. He has a 21% strike-rate when applying it to his horses and Thaler is a prime candidate to benefit from its fitting.

A well-bred son of Dubawi, he was sent off favourite for his debut at Doncaster in March. He underperformed in terms of market expectations, but that was a fair maiden and he travelled sweetly into the contest before weakening. He should have learned plenty from that introduction and with the tongue-tie now enlisted, we can expect significate improvement. The aid wouldn’t need to spark much progress from him to win a weaker contest than last time.
