Irish trainer Liam O’Brien has had just 32 runners in the last five seasons and just two of those have been in Britain. Those both ran at Ffos Las in March so it could be significant that he sends one runner to Worcester on Wednesday which will be his first in England. With travel expenses rising significantly for trainers, this won’t be a cheap trip. Connections will therefore be hoping to collect some prize money in order to justify the journey. We’llgowats got off the mark over hurdles at the sixth time of asking at Cork when last seen. The form of her victory isn’t particularly strong so the 7lb rise she received for it is significant. Being lightly raced, there’s a good chance she can progress further with the potential for more to come. As Liam O’Brien is having just his third runner in Britain, it seems unlikely that she has been sent to make up the numbers.
This mare was one of the raiding party when O’Brien sent two runners to Ffos Las where she finished third of three in a maiden hurdle. Maidens and novices were never going to be her cup of tea and she’ll have a much stronger chance in handicap company. It’s likely that we’ll see a different horse here with that confidence-boosting win last time out.
The 760-mile round trip is substantial so connections will undoubtedly be hoping to claim a significant portion of the £9,300 prize pot. It’s a surprisingly deep race for the grade so she will need to improve again to finish in the places but further progress is by no means out of the question.
