2.15 Wetherby: The interesting runner here is the Dr Richard Newland-trained CATAMARAN DU SEUIL. This seven-year-old landed this prize last year by eight lengths and is only three pounds higher this time. Brian Hughes is a top jockey booking, while the yard also has a stonking 75% record (6-from-8) with their chasers at Wetherby.
3.00 Cheltenham: It might be worth taking a chance on the 2016 winner of this race – ANTEROS. Okay, he’s not getting younger at eleven-years-old but having won his last three races is clearly still loving his racing. Soft/heavy ground is fine too and despite running out of the handicap (5lbs) gets in here with just 10st to carry which will be a huge plus in conditions.
3.15 Lingfield: This Listed race has gone to the Hugo Palmer yard for the last two seasons and they look to have another great chance with GIFTED MASTER. This six-year-old was actually one of their recent successes in this contest (2017), and after a decent second last time out here over seven furlongs he looks to be coming to the boil at the right time.
3.50 Wetherby: FINGERONTHESWITCH catches the eye as the only proven course and distance winner in this small field. That proven form at the track, coupled with trainer Neil Mulholland’s excellent 45% record with his chasers here, means there’s a lot to like about his runner. Jockey, Harry Reed, takes off a handy three pounds from his back, while his recent third at Cheltenham was a much-improved effort to suggest he’s ready to make is presence felt in this weaker-looking affair.
