Monday’s 408-1 first-time headgear treble

There’s a huge amount of action to look forward too on Monday, with seven meetings on the agenda. Ffos Las, Catterick, Lingfield, Windsor, Killarney and Southwell all host action and we’ll have horse racing tips for all seven!

When looking for winners, it’s crucial to check horses in first-time headgear. Blinkers, hoods, cheekpieces and more can prompt explosive improvement from horses and looking through Monday’s racing, there’s plenty of trainers reaching for first-time aids. Three of the biggest chances make up into an 408-1 treble and all the details can be found below!

2.40 Ffos Las – Ocean Cove

When Fergal O’Brien applies the blinkers to his horses, improvement is usually forthcoming. In the last two years, he has an 18% strike-rate when doing just that and Ocean Cove looks to enhance that statistic under Paddy Brennan.

He broke his duck over fences at Doncaster back in February, running below that standard in two subsequent starts at Newbury and Fontwell. Excuses can be made, however, and he remains on a great mark based on his hurdling exploits. The yard has started the new season very strongly and returned to the flat three miles, another victory could be beckoning.

4.45 Lingfield – Copake

Michael Bell has a 29% strike-rate in the last two years when fitting horses with blinkers and Copake is very interesting in the penultimate race at Lingfield. He wears the first-time visor for his handicap debut and he’s also been gelded.

He ran with promise on all three of his juvenile starts last season, weakening late over seven furlongs on the two latter occasions. Posting some good RPRs in the process, there’s enough stamina in his pedigree to suggest he could see out an easy ten furlongs. An opening mark of 69 is more than fair and Dylan Hogan’s three-pound claim is another big positive.

6.30 Windsor – Syrtis

Simon & Ed Crisford have a 19% strike-rate when adding the tongue-tie to their horses and French import Syrtis gets that aid for his British debut. He was trained in France by Andre Fabre, winning on three occasions. Placed at Group 3 level on a trio of occasions earlier in his career, he’s evidently very talented.

On official ratings he does have a bit to find, but French form is difficult to quantify and he may be far better than his rating of 101 suggests. He’ll have his ideal surface for his British debut and he’s run well fresh in the past too. Market support would be very interesting and he commands plenty of respect at a tempting price.
