Matt’s Outsiders: 40-1, 20-1 and 16-1 tips for Ladbrokes Trophy day 🏇🏇🏇

Sizing Tennessee winning the 2018 Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury

It’s one of the big handicaps of the season this Saturday on ITV Racing, the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. A race that has gone to those higher up the market in recent years, however, it has seven places on offer at William Hill so it pays to shop around with an outsider.

Newcastle is the other card on ITV with the Fighting Fifth the feature of the card. There are also meetings at Doncaster, Bangor, Fairyhouse and Wolverhampton for our horse racing tips to consider.

1.15 Newbury – Sir Peter O’Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase

Espoir De Teillee (16/1) was a winner over this course in the spring from this same mark of 142. He was just in front of Kalooki there, the pair meeting at the same weights. A winner on soft ground at Warwick prior to that, he won’t have any concern if there is plenty more rain.

The Tom George yard are in a better place now than they were when he made his return to action at Chepstow. That was not a bad run by any means and given he is more almost four times the price of Kalooki, he looks the way to go.

2.05 Newcastle – Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Handicap Chase

Takingrisks (20/1) is rising 13 now but he had enough about him to land the Sky Bet Chase in January as part of a monster 1065/1 outsiders each way double winner for Owen, The Cob the other half of that. That success was from a mark just a pound lower than this so he is well enough weighted if he can reproduce.

He made his return to action over hurdles which should have put him right for this. Sean Quinlan will be buoyed with a pair of winners at Doncaster on Friday which is ideal timing as this horse is all about filling him with confidence.

3.00 Newbury – Ladbrokes Trophy Chase

Sent off at 14/1 for this race last year, Danny Whizzbang (40/1) was our tip for the big race, though ultimately he disappointed. Ten pounds lower for this attempt, he has left Paul Nicholls and joined the yard of Milton Harris who are having a superb time of things this season.

The switch to a smaller yard might just allow him to find himself again as he was a very talented novice. He won a Grade 2 novice chase here first time up in the 2019/20 season so fresh is fine for him. His new yard try him in a visor and while he needs plenty taking on trust, the ability is there off this mark.
