Tips for Doncaster Races

Located in South Yorkshire and also known as Town Moor, it hosts both Flat and National Hunt racing. For the former, 2 of Britain’s 36 Group 1 races are run here. It is one of the oldest and largest established centres for the sport in the UK, with records dating back to the 16th century.

Course: Almost 2 miles round, the left-handed pear-shaped track is of galloping nature with minimal undulations and is generally extremely fair. There are rarely hard luck stories for our tips.

The same can be said for the jumps course and with testing conditions a rarity, it is a good place for National Hunt horses who like top of the ground to compete.

Draw Bias: On the straight course for races up to a mile, there is a slight bias towards the high numbers to look for with our tips. This is the stands side and is more prominent over shorter distances.

Feature Races: A number of Graded races and high quality handicaps in the jumps sphere, but the main races at Doncaster are on the Flat. The Lincoln Handicap signifies the start of the season and of course the Racing Post Trophy is the final Group 1 of the season and is often a big pointer to next seasons Classics.

The St Leger is without a doubt the biggest race of the campaign, being the oldest Classic of the season. The namesake festival in September has a whole host of good races too:

  • Sceptre Stakes (Group 3)
  • Park Hill Stakes (Group 2)
  • Flying Childers Stakes (Group 2)
  • Doncaster Cup (Group 2)
  • May Hill Stakes (Group 2)
  • St Leger (Group 1)
  • Champagne Stakes (Group 2)
  • Portland Handicap
  • Park Stakes (Group 2)
