Glorious Goodwood Day 1: Tuesday Preview, Tips and Free Bets

The time is finally here, as we welcome in Day 1 of Glorious Goodwood on July 28th. The first day of the meeting is headlined by the Goodwood Cup, a two-mile Group 1 that is part of the British Champions Series. Just like Royal Ascot, there will be no spectators on course, but there is still plenty of ways to get involved.

There are eight races on the first day of Glorious Goodwood, with five of those races being broadcast on ITV Racing. Stradivarius bids to make history in the feature Goodwood Cup, while the big reputation of Battleground is put on the line in the Vintage Stakes. In total, there are three pattern races on Tuesday, with a pair of Group 2 contests and the feature Group 1.

Stradivarius bids for history

No horse has won the Goodwood Cup on four occasions and Stradivarius could be the horse to do just that. He’s won the last three renewals of the Group 1 contest and given his highly impressive victory at Royal Ascot last month, he’s going to be a warm order to achieve history on Tuesday.

Glorious Goodwood Day 1 Tips

The action on ITV kicks off at 1.45 and it’s an ultra-competitive handicap to pick apart, with eighteen runners bidding for a slice of Glorious Goodwood success. The progressive Cape Cavalli looks to build upon a runaway win at York earlier this month.

A pair of Group 2 races follow, both over the seven-furlong distance. The Vintage Stakes is for the juveniles and Battleground has a superb chance of maintaining his lofty reputation after an impressive victory at Royal Ascot.

The Lennox Stakes is for the older horses thirty minutes later, run over the same distance, and the hat-trick seeking Space Blues has crystal clear claims for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin.
