The ITV cameras are back this weekend and they will be showing six races live from Sandown and Perth on Friday. The race of the day is the Group 2 bet365 Mile and last season’s star three-year-old of the division is set to make his return, with five rivals in opposition. We’ve also got a couple of ITV Outsiders to follow as well as our usual daily free tips.
John & Thady Gosden’s Field Of Gold had an awesome season last time around and he progressed into one of Europe’s best performers over a mile. He made a mockery of the field when blowing them away in the Irish 2000 Guineas and it was a very similar story in the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot.
Truth be told, he was a little disappointing in both the Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes but hopefully he will have improved over the summer and benefitted from the break. Obviously connections will have bigger goals further down the line but this looks like a good starting point.
The market isn’t expecting big things from Michael Bell’s Suspended Sentence but it would be very dangerous to overlook the three-year-old. He won a competitive nursery over course and distance in September and was last seen finishing fourth in a French Listed race. There could be more to come.
Fortunedefortunata won an Irish Grand National trial over an extended 3m3f for his previous trainer, Gordon Elliott, and he looks potentially very well treated on that form. Patrick Morris’ nine-year-old was far from disgraced when third off this mark at Haydock recently and can definitely outrun his odds.
Sandown’s main event is the bet365 Mile and the Group 2 contest has attracted a field of six. Field Of Gold is the most noteworthy runner and a big run will be expected from the four-year-old. The Lockinge and the Queen Anne will be bigger targets further down the line but he should be going close here.
Zeus Olympios won all four of his starts last season and was last seen getting the better of Opera Ballo in the Joel Stakes at Newmarket in September. He remains unexposed and there could be loads more to come from him. Never So Brave shouldn’t be underestimated and last year’s winner Dancing Gemini is the forgotten horse of the race. It’s going to be a cracker so don’t miss it!
