Sports Coach has progressed with each of his three starts to date and makes his handicap debut here. An opening mark of 90 is no freebie but his profile suggests he can improve further and he’s expected to go close.
Cogitate won a Newbury novice last season and he easily got the better of the now 107-rated Boiling Point. Second to 2000 Guineas contender Night Raider when last seen, there’s scope for plenty of improvement off a mark of 93.
Desert Hero progressed into a smart Group performer after winning the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. He was a valiant third in the St Leger at Doncaster and looks likely to find further improvement at four.
Nostrum has always shown plenty of ability and connections have been very patient with him. Sir Michael Stoute’s colt was a Listed winner at three and the veteran handler is an expert at training older horses. This could be his year and it’ll be disappointing if he doesn’t come out on top here.
Arabian Crown went from strength to strength last year and was utterly dominant in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes at Newmarket. He already looks like a live Derby contender and will book his place at Epsom by getting the job done here.
Bumper scorer who has progressed to be a fine hurdler, finishing second at Hereford behind the reopposing Fiercely Proud before winning at Kempton on Boxing Day. Finished second at Ludlow last month and he’s off a nice mark on handicap debut.
The form when second to Shishkin in the Grade 2 Denman at Newbury on his penultimate start would probably be good enough to win this if he could repeat it. He ran a poor race in the Ryanair at Cheltenham when last seen but this is much easier.
Winner of four Grade 1s over fences, and has the measure of Jonbon when both are at their very best. He was pulled up after a bad mistake in the Champion Chase last month and his jumping will be put under pressure here, but he should win cosily with a clear round.
Bryony Frost is riding out of her skin at present and this horse is quirky but is running off a nice mark if he can bounce back to form. An impressive winner of a 2m7f handicap chase in March last year, he was running a big race when a faller in the Scottish National. Now 4lb lower with blinkers and a tongue tie on together for the first time, he might get a soft lead out in front.
Beat Bob Olinger and the reopposing Langer Dan in a thrilling finish which went to the stewards’ room at Aintree earlier in the month. He was arguably lucky to keep the race and Langer Dan could put it up to him again, but he idled when he hit the front and could have the class to win again.
Very consistent horse who is doing well over fences of late, winning 2m4f handicaps at Kempton and Ayr recently. Up another 4lb but Freddie Gingell takes off 5lb so he’s well in here at present.
Caught the eye in bumpers last spring and has done well over hurdles this season, landing a 2m3f Ascot novice contest before finishing an excellent second to Champagne Twist in the EBF Final over course and distance. Sets the standard.

Sandown Park, located in the outer suburbs of London in Esher, is one of the UK’s most high profile courses as it has top class racing from both the flat and jump scenes. First opened in 1875, it was the first course in the country to have a members’ enclosure and also one of the first to charge all for attending. Our Sandown tips, like all our racing selections, are posted in the evening the day before the meeting, with all tips for the following day up by 7pm, or 9pm if there is evening racing.

The flat track is of galloping nature and has a 4 furlong run-in that is uphill, meaning we need our tips to fully stay the distance in order to win. There is also a separate 5 furlong track in the centre which is uphill all the way.
Generally, on the five-furlong track, it’s better to be drawn low as being able to bag the rail can be an advantage at Sandown, even more so on softer ground. Over seven furlongs it’s also better to be drawn low, as there is a bend close to the start, which is advantageous to be close to as to not concede ground.
On the flat the Coral-Eclipse is the big race of the year in July, a Group 1 over a mile and a quarter, won by some brilliant horses including Sea The Stars and Golden Horn.
Sandown also hosts five Grade 1’s over jumps each season, with the feature probably being the Tingle Creek Chase in December which is often seen as a trial towards the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
