Enable’s half-brother can light up an otherwise Derab Friday

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori at York on day one of the Dante Meeting

We might be set for downpours over the next few days, but John Gosden is releasing a horse on Friday at Ascot that could really brighten up the week.

Bred for success

John Gosden has had some incredible horses down the years, not least the superstar that is Enable. Unleashing the well-hyped Darain early in the campaign, this son of Sea The Stars might just eclipse that.

A half-brother to the incredible Enable, he’s also a half-brother to six winners. Those include Contribution and Entitle, with a huge amount of middle-distance class in his illustrious pedigree.

Pedigree In Full

Sire: Sea The Stars (11.3f)
Dam: Concentric
Dam’s Sire: Sadler’s Wells (11.4f)

Debut success?

This certainly won’t be a cakewalk for this potential star, as he’s entered in a Future Stayers’ Maiden at Ascot. A race that’s sire/dam restricted, there are some superb quantities in this field on paper.

Seven furlongs certainly won’t be the trip he finds his best form at, but a few of his relatives have made good impressions on their debuts over inadequate distances. Enable made a winning start over the mile, while Contribution scored on her second try over the same.

We can expect plenty of improvement from his first effort and whatever he does today will be a massive bonus. That being said, he’s going to be installed as a short-price to make a winning start, which certainly adds some pressure to his shoulders.

Can he make a winning start? There is plenty of reason to be hopeful of his chances. His pedigree marks him out as a potential star if everything goes according to plan and there’s likely to be a strong pace in this contest, which will help matters. John Gosden has a 16% strike-rate with his juveniles this season and they’re more often than not, very clued up for their debuts.

Where can I find him?

Derab will make his debut in the Me2 Club EBF Future Stayers’ Maiden Stakes at 3.05pm. The race can be watched live on Sky Sports Racing or streamed through most bookmakers, subject to meeting their minimum bet requirements.
