79/1 Racing Post Weekender Acca for Saturday’s ITV Racing

Newbury Racecourse

There is barely a time to take a breath in the new turf season, the big races coming thick and fast. Sandwiched between the first classics of the year and Royal Ascot, this weekend boasts more top-class action. We have done the hard work for you, scouring the pages of the Racing Post’s Weekender to bring you the top tips from their tipping team.

Morisco (1.50 Newbury)

Norman Chorley

“He kept on for a promising fifth in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York last August and was well suited to the step up to 1m when readily winning an Ayr novice next time out, with the placed horses both having won since.

The three-year-old is set to tackle 1m2f at the weekend and the new distance promises to suit, with his brother Howzer Black having won over this trip on Sunday. An opening mark of 93 could well underestimate Morisco.”

Lazuli (2.40 Sandown)

Stuart Redding

“Lazuli had to settle for second at Newmarket last week but he can go one better…making a quick reappearance. Charlie Appleby’s charge showed some fair form as a juvenile and ran even better on his comeback in a 6f handicap, racing close to the leader until his big weight told in the closing stages. That should have blown away any cobwebs and dropping to 5f is probably a wise move.”

Franconia (3.00 Newbury)

David Milnes

John “Gosden mopped up a similar contest at Newmarket last Sunday with Run Wild and this daughter of Frankel showed promise on her debut at Chelmsford last November where she finished second over 7f.

Bred to come into her own over trips like this weekend’s 1m2f, Franconia has pleased in her recent work on the Al Bahathri.”
