Gamble alert: New trip sees Chelmsford runner backed from 12-1 to 5-1

Chelmsford City Racecourse

On paper, the 7.50 at Chelmsford tonight looks a run of the mill Class 6 handicap over ten furlongs. That is until one of the runners who is trying this new trip for the first time gets backed from an opening show of 12-1 into his current price of 5-1. Taking on an odds on favourite with Ryan Moore on top, connections would appear not to be too worried about that competition as the support has been unrelenting.

We have free horse racing tips for Chelmsford’s meeting tonight as well as the afternoon cards at Ludlow, Taunton, Southwell and Clonmel. Check out our free bets page to get set up ahead of the Cheltenham Festival which is only twelve days away.

Doonbeg Farmer has not shown much in a pair of starts for James Evans since being claimed from Richard Hughes. That claim came when the horse finished runner-up over a mile here back in January, doing all his best work late in the day, grabbing that place in the final stride.

That run certainly suggests that he is a viable improver for the step up to ten furlongs for the first time. He’s only had eight starts in his life so there should still be room for improvement. He has been competitive enough from higher marks in Class 5 handicaps so the money for him now off a mark of 60 in a Class 6 over a new trip has to go down as very interesting.
