Tips for Chelmsford Races
Chelmsford City racecourse is an All Weather track located in Great Leighs, Essex. Based only 50 miles from Newmarket, and boasting excellent prize money, it regularly attracts high quality runners.
Course: Chelmsford races around a oval of approximately a mile, and features two chutes to allow for racing at all distances from five furlongs to a mile. The sweeping bends and two furlong straights mean our tips look for galloping types.
Surface: Chelmsford is run on a Polytrack surface, on which nearly £500,000 has been spent in recent years upgrading the racing surface to ensure it is as fair as possible and to reduce the initial kickback issues hold up horses suffered.
Draw Bias: Thanks to the track layout, there is no real draw bias for our tips to consider.
Feature Races: Racing at Chelmsford is of a high standard for All Weather, with Mark Johnston and Godolphin regularly providing runners. While their feature race in terms of class is the Listed Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes in june, their biggest day is at the start of September. The card in 2017 provided over £200,000 prize money, including the Chelmsford City Cup – an extremely competitive seven furlong Class 2 handicap.
