7:00 Southwell – Classic Pursuit – 1pt @ 20/1

CLASSIC PURSUIT is on a long losing run having failed to score since this time last year, but that win came over C&D off a 25lb higher mark and in a weak affair, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see him go well. He actually shaped reasonably back here six weeks ago, hampered in the closing stages when beaten before keeping on to the line like a horse who wasn’t a million miles away from finding form again. The handicapper has eased him a further few pounds and he returns from a break with a headgear change, both of which happened for that last win (albeit with a different yard). At the prices, I think he’s worth a play.

7:45 Kempton – Scorched Breath – 1pt @ 8/1

I’ve been keeping an eye on SCORCHED BREATH for a while now in anticipation of a win coming his way and it hasn’t happened! It certainly didn’t come close to happening at Lingfield on Saturday as he finished last of the twelve runners but was drawn wide, had a poor racing position, pulled hard and didn’t seem to appreciate the track. The mile trip was another question mark going into that and there was enough that went against him to throw that effort out completely. Now, he returns to 7f at a course we know he likes, has a good draw, is down another 3lbs in the weights and has a capable apprentice on board to remove a further 5lb.
