3:30 Newcastle – Epona – 1pt @ 33/1
EPONA hasn’t kicked on from her juvenile season, which included form with some talented horses, but the handicapper is giving her every chance to get back on track and reverting to sprinting at a stiff track could be a help. She wasn’t entirely disgraced on either start since having a wind-op, with excuses easily found for the first (reared and badly missed the break) and she looked forced into going too quickly last time when getting away on terms. The nature of this apprentice race should suit, her rider can claim 5lbs (yet to have a winner but has six seconds) and the yard are in good order. She’s an outsider but 33/1 looks generous to me.
5:00 Newcastle – Elixsoft – 1pt @ 16/1
Roger Fell’s yard has been quiet since the summer but ELIXSOFT still makes appeal on her return to a mile. She has won over shorter and went within a nose of a fourth career win when touched off here in September, but I think she’s best suited to this longer trip and her C&D form reads 2-2-2-1-2-3-0. The duck egg came recently but the filly since got back on track at 7f when mid-division in a decent race. She’s down a couple of pounds, should be suited to the run of the race and can’t be discounted back at a mile around here.
