I was sifting through some statistics about Newmarket last night to see if I could spot anything interesting. The form book is a very useful tool to use when betting but it should never be your only tool.
The more data and information you collect, the more knowledge you take in. In turn, the better the chance you will have to win in this game long term.
I took a look at the best performing jockeys at the track for the past five years and it is William Buick who comes out on top with 59 winners from 253 rides, an impressive 23% strike-rate.
Who is this mysterious jockey?
However, I said I’d look at some more recent data to see if I could find anything better. To my surprise, ROSSA RYAN has a very impressive strike-rate at Newmarket this year.
He has only had 8 rides at the track this year but he has won on 5 of them, resulting in an unbelievable 63-per-cent strike-rate and a level stakes profit of £70.50.
So, the next step was to go and see if Rossa had any rides at Newmarket this week and to my surprise, he only has one – Meu Amor running in the 4.10pm on Saturday.
A closer look at Meu Amor
As things stand, Rossa’s only ride for the entire week at Newmarket is Meu Amor. This is a two-year-old filly trained by Ralph Beckett.
Bred by Siyouni, this girl finished 4th behind Ventura Diamond at Goodwood on debut on firm ground which she does like.
She was then backed off the boards on her second start at Pontefract, defying short odds of 6/5 to score in decisive fashion in the hands of Rossa.
Doncaster awaited next where she was stepped up in class into a Class 2 nursery handicap and she was very well supported again, sent off the 3/1 favourite.
She finished 3rd behind the very progressive Spright on that occasion and goes to Newmarket this week with every chance off a 5lb higher mark.
I found this statistic to be very interesting anyways and I hope you find it useful too. Best of luck if you follow on Saturday.
