Sunday’s highlights: British raider at the Curragh and a Grade 1 chaser runs on the Flat

There’s a good mix of Flat and National Hunt action on offer across the four cards in Britain and Ireland on Sunday and we’ve picked out some interesting angles. David O’Meara sends a runner over to the Curragh and there’s a three-time Grade 1-winning chaser making his first start on the Flat. Jennie Candlish is 3/3 at Stratford this season and she has a runner in the feature Class 2 handicap. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Candlish’s 100% record at Stratford

Stratford has been a happy hunting ground for Jennie Candlish so far this season and all three of her runners managed to come out on top. Her sole representative at the track on Sunday is the very progressive Captain Cool, who has done very well since switching to fences.

The son of Jet Away has won three of his four chase starts so far and managed to win a three-runner event by 20 lengths over course and distance last time out. It’s good news that the handicapper hasn’t overreacted and he should still have a bit in hand, despite going up another 4lb.

British raider at the Curragh

David O’Meara has been based in Britain for a while now and he has a 50 per cent strike-rate with his runners at the Curragh so far this season. Estrange landed the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes and he’s set to send just one runner over on Sunday, with Audience lining up in the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes.

Previously trained by John & Thady Gosden, the seven-year-old won the Lockinge and Lennox Stakes back in 2024 and this is definitely his ideal trip. There were signs of a return to form when a narrow second at Leopardstown last time out and it would be dangerous to rule the son of Iffraaj out.

Grade 1 chaser on the Flat

Joseph O’Brien is one of the best dual-purpose trainers around and he has done an excellent job with very talented Solness. He has won three Grade 1 chases in the last couple of seasons so it’s very interesting that he’s set to make his Flat debut in the Curragh’s concluding 1m4f maiden.
