Curragh Flat Course

Tips for Curragh Races

“Where Champions Are Made” is the slogan of Curragh racecourse, and is certainly apt. Home of a number of the biggest Flat races in Ireland – ten of Ireland’s twelve Group 1s were held here in 2007, the Curragh is at the centre of the Irish bloodstock industry, with a huge 26% of horses trained in Ireland being trained on the Curragh.

Course: With racing commencing at the Curragh in the early 1700s, the course has evolved into a unique proposition as the course map shows. It includes a testing uphill finish, and our Curragh tips will generally look for galloping types with plenty of stamina.

Draw Bias: There is no real evidence of draw bias at the Curragh racecourse for our tips to consider

Feature Race: There are a huge number of excellent races at the Curragh, spread throughout the season. The highlights are the Group 1s:

  • May: Irish 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas plus Tattersalls Gold Cup
  • June: Irish Derby and Pretty Polly Stakes
  • July: Irish Oaks
  • August: Phoenix Stakes
  • September: Moyglare Stud Stakes, Vincent O’Brien Stakes and the Irish St Leger

We will have tips for all the feature races and more, published from the night before, plus coverage in our News section.
