A tight course with portable fences that take a fair bit of jumping, it’s a tricky test for horse and jockey. Trainers To Follow

Dan Skelton – A yard who mop up races at the smaller tracks over the summer, it’s no surprise that he has the most winners at the track over the last five years. Backing them blindly would see a punter in a negative, but it is a rare meeting that Skelton isn’t represented by a number of strong chances and our sponsored meeting is certainly no exception.

Tom George – A remarkable 33% strike rate for Tom George in the last five years at the track, 21/64 with a level stake profit of £10.64. Three raiders make their way up from Slad in Gloucestershire to Southwell for this meeting. The percentages say that one of them will go away with a win, but will that be the case? Caroline Bailey – An 18% strike rate at Southwell since starting her training career, just Towcester and Leicester are ahead in terms of winners. Bailey boasts a level stakes profit of £22.26 over the course of her career at this track, with 45% of all her runners here making it into the first three.

Jockeys To Follow

Harry Skelton – It comes as no surprise to see Harry Skelton on top of the jockeys list with his brother leading the trainers at the track. Booting home winners for Caroline Bailey as well as his brother has seen Skelton score at a 24% clip, producing a small profit if backing him blind. A remarkable achievement from more than 130 mounts in the last five seasons.

Richard Johnson – The Champion jockey is second on the list, with 102 winners here in his career, a 23% strike rate is the highest of any track he has ridden at more than 210 times. Sean Bowen – 17/73 in his short career so far at Southwell, that’s a 23% strike rate for an eye-opening level stakes profit of £35.56. 9/27 over fences here for almost all of that profit margin, he has a single ride in the 6.40 over the bigger obstacles, on Alf ‘N’Dor for his father.

Horses To Follow

Too Many Diamonds 6.40 – A perfect 2/2 at this track so far, both over two and a half miles, he bids to extend that unbeaten record on our sponsored night. Representing the Skelton team who lead the way in volume of winners here, a repeat of his most recent win from a week ago would see him hard to beat.

Riddlestown 6.40 – Sadly in the same race as Too Many Diamonds, but Caroline Fryer’s old stager has won seven of his twenty-one starts at the track. Four pounds above the highest mark he has even defied over fences is going to make it tough for the eleven-year-old but his love of the track means he has to be respected.

Hey Bob 9.10 – A difficult horse to catch right, taking until the thirty-sixth time of asking before he managed to get his head in front. Three defeats since have taken his record to 1/39 but he is now only a pound above that win, which importantly came the only time he raced at Southwell. A return visit to the track may see him back in a far better light.
