Saturday’s racing: Outsiders, horses for courses and a Noel Meade Newmarket runner

There are another eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Saturday but the ITV action comes from Sandown and Newmarket. With that in mind, we’ve selected some outsiders and runners with proven course records, who could have an advantage. It’s not too often that Noel Meade sends runners to Newmarket so we’ve assessed the chances of his representative there on Saturday. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

ITV Outsiders

Excellent Believe (33/1, bet365) has only had two previous starts in handicap company and he has been performing with credit in Listed and Group 3 races in the last year. Although well beaten in the Royal Hunt Cup, he should be less inconvenienced by the draw here and has been dropped 3lb since.

Fierce Fortitude (16/1, bet365) is trying 1m4f for the first time here and the new trip may well be to his liking. This lightly raced son of Mehmas got the better of Ammes when winning off a 4lb lower mark on his penultimate start and the best could be yet to come.

Horses for courses

Words Of Truth won his only start over course and distance in a Listed race last time out and the step back up in grade shouldn’t be an issue for him. Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old won the Mill Reef Stakes as a juvenile and the early signs suggest that he has taken well to 5f.

Classic runs his race at Sandown more often than not and he has two wins and two seconds to his name in seven previous course starts. It’ll take a huge effort off this mark but he could be up to the task.

Saddadd faces the toughest task of his career in the Coral-Eclipse but his unblemished course record will stand him in good stead. He has won both starts at Sandown and began the season with victory here in the Gordon Richards Stakes.

Noel Meade runner at Newmarket

Irish trainer Noel Meade is probably better known as a National Hunt trainer but he has had a fair amount of success on the Flat too. He doesn’t send runners to Newmarket too often so it’s interesting that Caught U Sleeping has been sent over for the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks.

This is by no means a stellar race for the grade so her narrow defeat in a Group 3 at Naas last time out is amongst the best recent form on offer. Still lightly raced, she tries 1m4f for the first time here and it’s a long way to go just for a fact-finding mission. Perhaps connections are confident of a big run.
