Wednesday’s racing: Snowden & Sheehan at Worcester and Epsom horses for courses
We’ve got five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday so we’ve highlighted some key angles, including a trainer and jockey combination to watch at Worcester. Epsom isn’t a track that suits every horses so we’ve picked out some proven course performers. It’s the Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday and Liam Bramall may have found a bit of value with his ante-post pick. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Snowden & Sheehan at Worcester
Trainer Jamie Snowden and jockey Gavin Sheehan have a terrific record at Worcester so far this season and their strike-rate of 60 per cent looks formidable. The pair are represented by one runner on Wednesday so we’ve had a look at their chances of coming out on top.
Quick Sharpener made the perfect start to life with his new yard when winning well over fences at Hereford in May, although he only faced one rival on that occasion. The handicapper hasn’t overreacted and this looks like a good opportunity to follow up.
Epsom horses for courses
Local trainer Jim Boyle’s Hello Cotai has a 50 per cent strike-rate at Epsom, having won two of his four previous starts. The five-year-old returned to winning ways when scoring by a length at Windsor and he has won here off a higher mark in the past. Don’t rule out a big run from him.
Double Red landed a 1m2f handicap here in September and Henry Candy’s gelding shapes as if the new trip could suit here. There’s a slight question mark to answer with regards to his mark but he won nicely off 3lb lower at Lingfield in April and should go under consideration.
Mystic Moment could be of interest here, as she bolted up in a course and distance maiden last term. She contested some decent races after that, including a couple of Listed contests, and we haven’t seen the best of her in handicap company just yet.
Which O’Brien runner will land the Eclipse?
There are still some doubts around who is going to represent Ballydoyle in the Eclipse on Saturday but it seems likely that he’s going to win it for the fourth consecutive year. Hawk Mountain (9/2, Boylesports) looks like the value play at the prices and he may well have been underestimated.
O’Brien’s three-year-old was a promising juvenile, landing the Group 1 Futurity Trophy at Doncaster, and wasn’t beaten far by stablemate Constitution River at Chantilly. Whilst it’s unlikely that both run, Hawk Mountain would be the one to beat if he lines up instead of Constitution River.
