TV Stats ‘2070/1 Cracker Acca’
(Pays £4,140 for a £2 stake)

1.50 Sandown: The Gary Moore-trained DAREBIN landed this prize twelve months ago and might be worth sticking with. He seems to save his best for Sandown, with his overall chase record here reading 3-1-4-1-5-2-3-3, while he’s rated only two pounds higher than last year. Yes, he’s got 4 ¼ lengths to find with Johnbb based on their runs here last month, but there is a six-pound turnaround in Darebin’s favour this time to suggest there won’t be much between the pair this time.

2.25 Sandown: A decent renewal of the Unibet Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle with several chances. Hang In There and Fiddlerontheroof are respected, but with four wins in the race since 2011 then trainer Nicky Henderson’s SON OF CAMAS gets the nod. This five-year-old was a good winner on his hurdles debut at Newbury at the end of November and with the second coming out to win recently the form looks solid. Soft ground and the trip are fine, while with only three career runs in total should have more improvement still to come.

3.00 Sandown: Plenty of old faces on show in this veteran’s chase that is named in honour of last year’s winner – Houblon Des Obeaux. A case can be made for many, but the David Pipe yard have a decent 29% record with their chasers at the track and also landed this prize in 2016 – they run VIEUX LION ROUGE. This eleven-year-old showed he’s still got a taste for the game by winning back in October at Chepstow and despite failing to build on that in two runs since will be more at home back in this sort of company. Soft ground is fine, and he’s rated only a pound higher than his last success.

3.15 Wincanton: This has been a kind race to the Philip Hobbs yard in recent years – winning two of the last four runnings – and their GALA BALL will be hoping to add to that record. This ten-year-old flopped at Newbury last time out but you feel that run was too bad to be true and is worth giving another chance to. The stable is in good form at the moment, plus he’s the only proven course winner in the field. Prior to that last run, he’s also recorded seven top three finishes (two wins – both at Wincanton) from his eight runs over fences so back at his favoured track he commands plenty of respect.
