TV Stats ‘1829/1 Cracker Acca’

(Pays £3,658 for a £2 stake)

1.30 Aintree: The Becher Chase is a contest that trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies has a good recent record in – he’s landed the prize three times since 2010. This year he pins his hopes on BALLYOPTIC, who should find this a lot easier than the Betfair Chase that he contested last time. Prior to that run he was a good winner of the Charlie Hall Chase last month and despite falling in this race last year and in the Grand National back in April, it was late on when (4th last) he took a tumble in the National, so can hopefully put that experience to good use this time.

1.50 Sandown: This is a contest that trainer Paul Nicholls has targeted with a lot of success in recent years – winning four of the last eight – so his GRAND SANCY catches the eye. He was an excellent second in the Tolworth Hurdle here last season, so we know the track suits and looks a nice recruit to fences for this powerful yard. A couple of spins over hurdles should have him spot-on for this.

3.00 Sandown: A ‘must-see’ renewal of the Grade One Betfair Tingle Creek Chase this season, but with a total of ten wins in the race then it’s hard to ignore trainer Paul Nicholls. He saddles his 2017 winner of the race – POLITOLOGUE – who is also the second highest-rated in the field after Un De Sceaux. He wasn’t disgraced to be a close second to a ‘race-fit’ Defi Du Seuil, last time at Cheltenham. We know he handles the Sandown track and can make a bold bid to overturn that form.

3.15 Aintree: With a 24% record with his chasers at Aintree, then trainer Colin Tizzard runners are always respected here. He saddled the eleven-year-old ULTRAGOLD in this race, a horse that seems to save his best for these Grand National fences. He was third in the Becher Chase last season and actually gets in here off a six-pound lower rating. Of course, he’s not getting any younger, but he was also a respectable fourteenth in the Grand National behind Tiger Roll last season and it’s hard to fault his overall record when tackling these fences – 1-2-1-3-14.
