Baron Alco jumps the last fence and wins the BetVictor Gold Cup

Trends Analysis: Saturday 14th Dec 2019

Christmas is not far away now folks, but before that we’ve one of the festive jumping highlights to look forward to this Saturday with the second day of the Cheltenham International Meeting.

We’ve four LIVE ITV races to enjoy from Prestbury Park that include the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup (1.55) – a contest trainer Paul Nicholls has won five times.

The Unibet International Hurdle (3.05) is another highlight from Cheltenham and all eyes will be on last season’s Triumph Hurdle winner – Pentland Hills – as he starts his preparation towards the Champion Hurdle.

With three more LIVE ITV races from Doncaster, then that means seven contests for armchair fans to lock themselves in for.

As always, we’ll be highlighting our TOP FOUR trends to look for from the ITV Racing and putting them in a big-priced ‘Cracker Acca’ – plus, giving you the ‘best of the rest’ trends from around the other tracks this Saturday.

Plus – don’t forget, you can also get more help finding the winner for all this Saturday’s races on our Free Horse Racing Tips page.

TV Stats ‘124/1 Cracker Acca’

2.10 Doncaster: Only three runners here but this looks a straight shootout between Windsor Avenue and SAM SPINNER. Both are ‘two-from-two’ over fences – however, with the Jedd O’Keefe yard in good form at the moment (two winners from last four) then Sam Spinner edges it. He’s looked better the further he’s gone in his races over fences so the long Doncaster straight will be right up his street. While, unlike Windsor Avenue, he’s at least proven over this three-mile trip.

2.30 Cheltenham: Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies has a fine record in this race – winning it twice in the last five years. He runs two here – Redford Road and MOSSY FEN – and although both are respected the last-named gets the nod. Jockey Sam Twiston-Davies would probably have had the pick so the fact he’s gone for Mossy Fen looks significant. He’s also a proven winner over this three-mile trip and has looked a horse on the up after solid wins this season at Worcester and Aintree.

2.45 Doncaster: This has been a race the Nicky Henderson have used with success in recent years – winning it twice in the last five years. Those two previous wins also came in the famous Munir/Souede green silks, so their TOMBEE DU CIEL, who runs under the same ownership, looks to have a lot going for her. This French import is yet to race in this country but gets in here with only 10st 5lbs and the fact the Henderson yard are pitching her in at Grade Two level on her British debut suggests she’s held in high regard.

3.05 Cheltenham: The Nicky Henderson yard have won the last two renewals of the Unibet International Hurdle and they’ve got a big chance of making it three. They run last season’s Triumph Hurdle hero, PENTLAND HILLS, who heads here with an unbeaten (three-from-three) record over the sticks. His proven course and distance form will be a big plus and he also won first time out last season so the 254-day absence isn’t a big concern.
