Willie Mullins sends one to Southwell
Willie Mullins has never had a National Hunt runner at Southwell before but that is set to change on Thursday, as he is preparing to send a horse over to the Nottinghamshire track. Here we take a look at the horse in question’s chances and she’s unlikely to be far away.
Whitewinewednesday arrives here having won over hurdles at Sedgefield on Tuesday and although it’s a short turnaround time, she can make a winning start to life over fences. It’s worth noting that the daughter of Affinisea avoids a penalty for that success and Patrick Mullins heads over to take the ride.
Testing ground at Bellewstown?
The going is officially described as soft, heavy in places at Bellewstown on Thursday and with that in mind, horses with proven records in testing conditions will be of interest.
Aquilla Star got off the mark with an impressive victory on soft ground at Galway earlier this month and a 9lb rise is hard to argue with. John McConnell’s filly is well placed to follow up, with conditions likely to suit, which makes her well worth considering.
Narlita has a bit to find according to the handicapper but the conditions could even the odds somewhat. Both of her previous successes were achieved on heavy ground, the first of which came over a similar trip here, so it would be dangerous to rule out the seven-year-old with that in mind.
Southwell stat
Lawney Hill has a 60 per cent strike-rate with her Southwell runners in the last five seasons, with three winners from five runners. She sends No More No to the track on Thursday and the seven-year-old has provided her with all three of those victories. He’s probably better than he showed at Newton Abbot last time out and his good record over fences, particularly over course and distance, definitely bodes well.
