Owen’s Outsiders! 66/1, 33/1 and 16/1 Selections (5th August)

There’s a bumper day of racing to look forward to on Wednesday, with Wexford, Newton Abbot and Ayr all hosting afternoon racing before Lingfield and Sligo joins in the evening.

We’ll have horse racing tips for every meeting on site. With places of 33/1 and 28/1 from Saturday’s Outsiders, hopefully, there is further success to be had with so much action to get stuck into!

1.15 Newton Abbot – Lucky Purchase (66/1)

The front-two in the market in this Novices’ Hurdle look miles ahead of the competition. They take up a huge market share, however, and with three places up for grabs, one at a massive price could be sneaking into that spot. That horse could well be Bill Turner’s Lucky Purchase.

She was placed at odds of 100/1 over course and distance on her most recent start, ironically behind Templepark. She ran well for a very long way and was only beaten nine lengths by that classy rival. It would be a shock if she can reverse the placings, but the rest of the field beyond the favourites looks modest. She’s proven her stamina, unlike many of these, and looks overpriced looking at the facts.

2.40 Ayr – Tricky Dicky (16/1)

A no-show in two starts this year, it’s easy enough to make excuses for Tricky Dicky. A frequent winner, he’s landed 11 of his 52 career outings. The latter came three starts ago, winning at York off just a pound lower. His most recent course and distance run was very disappointing, granted, but he’s now seven and is likely to throw in the odd clanger.

Given that his most recent success came off a comparable mark, he’s weighted well enough to play a big role. Ground conditions have come into his favour and Roger Fell deserves a change of luck after plenty of near misses in recent weeks.

3.20 Newton Abbot – Knockmaole Boy (33/1)

Previously with Gordon Elliott, Knockmaole Boy has shown flashes of his best for Jean-Rene Auvray. Rated 138 at his peak over hurdles, his most recent run at Southwell over fences was an eyecatcher. He was travelling well behind the leaders before falling three-out, where he landed too steeply.

A return to hurdling is no surprise and should help to bring back his confidence. He’s on a fair looking rating and Page Fuller removes a very useful three pounds. He has the fitness edge on a number of his rivals and is very interesting at a price.
