Owen’s Ascot Outsiders! 25/1, 20/1 and 16/1 Selections for ITV

Although there is limited group action on Saturday in England, Ascot hosts a top-quality handicap card. There are five Class 2 events at the Berkshire venue over a variety of distances, which will make for some superb, close racing.

We’ll have horse racing tips and ITV Racing tips for the action at Ascot! In this article, however, I’ll be focusing on some horses at bigger prices! With some big, hugely competitive fields in the offing, the chance for value is clear to see!

1.50 Ascot – Graceful Magic (20/1)

A three-time winner as a juvenile, Graceful Magic was a progressive commodity and there should be more to come. She beat the now 106 rated Stylistique at Ayr on her penultimate start of 2019 ended the campaign with a Group 3 second to the smart Rose Of Kildare.

She’s had a difficult campaign in 2020, returning in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.  Most recently tilted at a tough Group 3 at Goodwood, she’s not looked suited to the mile and seven-furlong distances she’s competed over this year. Today’s drop in distance should really help matters on this year’s evidence. She was progressive as a juvenile and she could easily get back on that curve now she returns to handicaps over this trip.

3.00 Ascot – Island Brave (25/1)

Rated 100 at the peak of his powers, Island Brave has been performing better than the bare form figures suggest in 2020. He’s raced over 1m 6f for his two most recent outings, finishing strongly on both occasions, latterly at this venue. His best effort this calendar year was incidentally on his only start over two miles, where he was third at Wolverhampton.

He remains lightly-raced over two miles, running over it on just four occasions. He shapes as though at this stage of his career, he’ll be best suited by today’s distance. Sitting three pounds below his last winning rating, there can be plenty of hope for a big effort.

3.35 Ascot – Hyanna (16/1)

Extremely tough and consistent, Hyanna was a dual winner in 2019. That includes a gutsy Class 2 victory at Sandown where she came with a strong late surge. She returned this season with a cozy victory at Windsor, idling late on but still eased down to a two-length score.

She headed for Listed company on her most recent start, finishing seventh in the Aphrodite. Far from disgraced that day, she was just too keen in the early stages and couldn’t sustain her effort. She drops back into handicaps off just three pounds higher than her bloodless win at Windsor.

It’s rare to see her run a bad race in handicap company and this contest should be run to suit. She’ll be coming home fast and late, hopefully into a favourable position under fantastic five-pound claimer Georgia Dobie.
