William Haggas has had nine runners in the last five days. Of these, no fewer than seven have won and the other two both finished second. The Newmarket trainer is absolutely banging in the winners at a rapid rate. Clearly Haggas is trying to finish the season with a bang and it’s currently working. He has four runners on Friday across Newmarket and Southwell and it would be wise to take note. When combined, the four runners form a 263-1 accumulator. Florida (5-1, bet365) makes his debut here having been pulled out at Doncaster last week due to unsuitable ground. This is another son of No Nay Never, a sire who has had an excellent season, especially with juveniles. The likes of Little Big Bear, Blackbeard and Meditate have really made his stock rise. There’s plenty of stamina in Florida’s family which bodes well for his future but as a starting point, 7f will be fine.
Frantanck (3-1, William Hill) is a lightly-raced three-year-old who should still have some improvement in the tank. Having had just six career starts so far, he’s still learning his trade. He won a handicap at Windsor over a mile 10 days ago and was gelded the next day. It seems feasible that going back up to 1m2f will suit now that his mind isn’t on other things.
Estidama (5-6, bet365) is another debutant and has seemingly been presented with a great opportunity to get off the mark. This wouldn’t be the deepest of novice events and she can make the most out of her fillies’ allowance. Richard Kingscote takes the rides and there’s enough evidence in her pedigree to suggest she’s up to winning this.
Canterbury Bell (5-1, bet365) has fallen a couple of pounds down the handicap as a result of her most recent efforts. This does mean her current mark of 74 is just 2lb higher than when dead-heating at Newmarket four starts ago. There’s a nagging suspicion that we haven’t seen the best of her yet and there could be more to come from this three-year-old.
