Henderson lands 21/1 four-timer

Sandown - Nicky Henderson

Champion trainer Nicky Henderson was reporting fears of a bug in his yard a matter of weeks ago, but he had a red-letter day on Monday by completing a 21/1 across the card four-timer.

1.00 Kempton – Precious Cargo – 6/4

The day got off to the perfect start when Precious Cargo landed the opener at Kempton. This strapping son of Yeats gained the one win from his three starts in bumpers for Lucinda Russell last season, and he ran out an impressive winner on stable/hurdles debut. Pulling clear on the run-in to record a three and a quarter length victory.

1.30 Kempton – On The Blind Side – 7/4

A smart 153-rated hurdler at his peak last season, this seven-year-old proved last month’s underwhelming chasing debut at Cheltenham to be all wrong by getting off the mark at the second attempt in this discipline. The front two pulled a massive twenty-one lengths clear of the remainder of the field, but Henderson’s charge got the better of favourite Talkischeap to land the spoils – and give us a winner on our daily tips page.

2.05 Kempton – Pym – 8/13

Big things have been expected of Pym for much of his career, and he justified prohibitive odds to gain his second hurdles win. It was not all plain sailing for this son of Stowaway, however, who may have had to settle for second-best had his stablemate The Cashel Man jumped the last more fluently. The Henderson 1-2 paid £6.50 to a £1 stake on the tote.

2.55 Ludlow – Lough Derg Spirit – 1/1

James Bowen kept things simple on this seven-year-old by letting him lead for much of the 2m4f contest. Despite jumping out to his left at most of his fences, he ran out a comfortable twelve-length winner, bringing up the four-timer in the process.

Things could have been even better for the team at Seven Barrows, however, if Dieu Benisse had landed the 3.25 at Ludlow. The mare was creeping into contention prior to her fall at the third last. Barring that accident, she looks likely to have had a part to play in the finish. Henderson has got no entries for tomorrow’s racing, but he will no doubt be well represented later this week – with the yard currently having eleven horses entered for Wednesday.
