We’re at a brief period where both high class flat and high class jump racing overlap, this makes for a great Saturday of racing on ITV with something for everyone. Doncaster hosts the final domestic Group 1 of the season with the Vertem Futurity Trophy along with a couple of quality sprint races. There are a couple of Group 3’s at Newbury where the improving Young Rascal bids to make it three wins from three at the track. The terrestrial coverage is completed with four contests at Cheltenham where we see the return of a number of top horses, including 2017 Gold Cup runner up Minella Rocco. We have analysis and selections for all nine races in our ITV racing tips.
O’Brien going for ninth win in Vertem Futurity Trophy
Magna Grecia wasn’t originally entered in this contest so was supplemented at a cost of £17,500. Given how well he ran on just his second career start in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes behind the talented Persian King, that supplementary looks the right move from connections. He got the mile really well on that occasion and it would be no surprise to see him improve again for Aidan O’Brien. Turgenev has been an effortless winner of his previous two starts and the horse he was second to on debut has since won a Group 1, so deserves his place, as does Phoenix Of Spain. Charles Hills’ colt chased home Dewhurst winner Too Darn Hot at this track in the Champagne Stakes and looks like he’ll appreciate this extra furlong. Kuwait Currency is also interesting at a massive price considering he’s won two of his four starts and certainly wasn’t disgraced when fifth in the Dewhurst last time.

Redicean and Gumball lock horns
It’s a slight shame that Nicky Henderson’s unbeaten We Have A Dream wasn’t declared for the Masterson Holdings Hurdle. But nonetheless we have an intriguing contest in store. Gumball looked a really promising juvenile when winning his first two starts last season before struggling on soft ground. He got firmly back on track with a second at Grade 1 level at Aintree before regaining the winner thread at Ludlow. Ex flat horse Redicean announced himself on the jumps scene with three emphatic victories at Kempton prior to flopping in the Triumph Hurdle. He is clearly very talented but has to prove that away from that venue.
