Guide to Saturday’s ITV Racing

The final day of ITV Racing in 2018 brings us eight races to round off the year. Grade 1 action from Newbury highlights the day as the Challow Hurdle has attracted seven novices who bid to bolster their Cheltenham Festival claims. Three handicaps complete the action there as well as the same number at Doncaster. The other race on Town Moor is a Mares’ Listed Chase which is a high quality, competitive affair. Our ITV Racing tips are live!

Champ to live up to the name

To be given a name like Champ, you have to be pretty well-regarded. The son of King’s Theatre was second to the unbeaten Vinndication on hurdling debut and hasn’t looked back since. Culminating in an impressive handicap win last time, despite being keen early on, he’s earned a rating of 150 and a shot in a Grade 1. He looks to have a huge chance, but his opponents have to be respected. Brewin’Upastorm has only lost once in his short career so far and got off the mark on hurdling debut in comfortable style when last seen. Taking a step up in trip here, he could be anything. Kateson is another who is unbeaten over obstacles and possesses Grade 2 Bumper form from last season while Coolanly was a winner at that level last time out.

Girl to upset the Lady in quality Mares’ Chase

Lady Buttons has won three of her four starts over fences, including a pair of handicaps against the males. Her only loss came in a Grade 1 at the Aintree Festival which reads as strong form in it’s own right. But all those efforts have come over two miles and this trip could just stretch her. Rene’s Girl was runner up in a Grade 1 in her final start of last season, which reads extremely well. She has underwhelmed slightly since, but back against her own sex over a course and distance she has won over, could be tough to stop. Another who has to be respected is Drinks Interval, for whom the drop in trip could play into the strengths of this bold front-runner.
