Guide To Saturday’s Racing – 11th August 2018

Shergar Cup Girls Team

We have another bumper Saturday in store today, with no less than ten races live on ITV4, the bulk coming from the feature meeting at Ascot. The Shergar Cup certainly divides opinion, but it’s an interesting days racing that gives us a first-hand look at some of the worlds best jockeys. Away from Ascot, the feature race of the day is the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes, with several improving three-year-olds aiming for the prize. You can find our ITV Racing Tips on site now as we look forward to another good day of action!

Zaaki aiming to give Sir Michael history in the Rose Of Lancaster

Sir Michael Stoute is currently the joint leading trainer for the Rose Of Lancaster Stakes, training three winners of the contest. He’ll be looking for a history-making fourth win in the contest with his progressive Zaaki, who bids to turnaround a defeat by Communique on twelve-pound better terms. Let’s not forget, Mark Johnston has also claimed this contest on three occasions, so he too could make history today. That said, his Communique looks to have a very difficult task given he now meets Zaaki on equal terms, as he still would be receiving five pounds if this was a handicap.

Some of the world’s best congregate for the Shergar Cup

It’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but the Shergar Cup does provide us with something different. Four teams of jockeys will be competing to claim this year’s Shergar Cup, with some fantastic international jockeys making the journey over to Ascot. Japanese legend Yutaka Take, the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira and eight-time German Champion Jockey Andrasch Starke are just a handful of the brilliant riders who fill out this year’s card.
