Group 1 Action Lights Up Longchamp + 317/1 Treble!

Paris Longchamp

Haydock hosted an action-packed card on Saturday, which included the Group 1 Sprint Cup. Attention now switches to Longchamp, where they also have a Group 1 offering, namely, the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp – which has plenty of British representation. We delve further into three races on the Longchamp card below and we’ll also have free horse racing tips for all of the remaining action at York, Listowel and Fontwell on site.

Prix des Chenes (Group 3, 1.00pm)

We have British representation in this Group 3, courtesy of the Charlie Appleby trained Al Dabaran. Unbeaten from his two starts to date, this Dubawi colt makes the journey across the English Channel in search of some Group success.

Standing in his way, is the home charge, HAPPY BERE. A winner of two of his four starts to date, this colt posted a good time when landing a Listed race at Deauville last time out. Olivier Peslier is now back aboard this son of Pedro The Great, who should appreciate today’s step up to a mile.

Prix d’Aumale (Group 3, 1.35pm)

Sir Mark Prescott brings Alpinista over to contest this Group 3, and the Frankel filly appeared to lose her last race at Goodwood in the stalls.

If handling the preliminaries better, she could go well, but the one to beat is NUNZIA. Fabrice Vermeulen’s juvenile found only subsequent Group 3 winner Kenway too strong when second in a Listed race at Vichy last month.

She looks a sure-fire improver now tackling a mile, and Christophe Soumillon is booked to ride for the first time today, so everything looks set for a big performance.

Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Group 1, 2.50pm)

The feature race on the card is the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, which has been won by the likes of Excelebration, Moonlight Cloud and Ribchester in recent years.

Aidan O’Brien sends over Circus Maximus, and the reigning St James’s Palace Stakes winner should find this trip more suitable than the extended 1m2f he contested at York last time out.

He is not the only horse arriving here on a recovery mission, however, with Charlie Hills bringing Irish 2000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain over from his Lambourn base.

Jamie Spencer’s mount arrives here with risks attached – having finished down the field in his last two starts – and although Kick On and Romanised both bring winning form into the race, preference is for Andre Fabre’s DELAWARE.

This three-year-old has won his last two starts, building on a Listed win at Deauville when landing a Group 3 back at that venue last time out.

His stable has a fine recent record in this contest, having won the 2016 renewal with Vadamos, and sending out last year’s runner-up Wind Chimes. With most of his rivals having questions to answer, the Khalid Abdullah owned three-year-old is backed to take another step up the ladder, and gain his first Group 1 success today.

His main challenge may come from the owner’s Obligate, who was an eye-catcher in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild last time out. She is respected receiving weight all round, but her recent performances have suggested that she may now need further to be seen at her best.
