Grand National 2023: Jamie Codd tips 40-1 runner for success at Aintree 🚀

Jamie Codd is a hugely respected jockey, man and horse racing pundit. He once tipped Labaik to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 50-1 and was laughed at when he did so. Labaik went on to win and it was an incredibly shrewd tip. His opinion always has to be respected and he has picked out a 40-1 runner for success in Saturday’s Randox Grand National at the Aintree Festival. Let’s take a look at the horse in more detail below.

Jamie Codd’s Grand National Tip

Trained by Thomas Gibney, Codd’s big fancy for the biggest race on the planet is Velvet Elvis. The hugely respected amateur jockey, known as the Coddfather said: “I liked his run beyond Any Second Now the last day – he will get a lot more weight off him this time round and is running off a nice weight.

“His trainer Thomas Gibney is no stranger to big race success having won an Irish National. He can be ridden handy, is a sound jumper and can handle a little dig in the ground. I also think Corach Rambler, Mr Incredible and Carefully Selected could run well.”

Liam Bramall’s Grand National Tip

Lifetime Ambition has been laid out for this race by Jessica Harrington and it would be a fairytale result for her. This gelding’s best form is in the spring and he ran really well to finish second in the Grade 1 novice chase over an extended three miles at Punchestown last April. It’s also a huge plus that he has experience of jumping these fences, having finished fourth in the Grand Sefton earlier on in the season.

I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that he weakened from the Elbow. That was his first start of the season and was therefore entitled to need the run. Tactically, Harrington has suggested that the plan is for him to race up with the pace and stay out of trouble. Assuming that’s the case, there should be no hard luck stories and a big run could be on the cards.
