Horse racing is in Liam's blood and his biggest passion is jumps racing. He can often be found at his favourite tracks; Chepstow and Cheltenham in the Autumn when the National Hunt action kicks off. In his own words: "I'm often referred to as a walking form book, a trait which comes in handy from time to time. My proudest tipping success to date was landing a whopping 682-1 accumulator at Epsom."
There are a couple of Listed contests on offer at Dundalk on Friday evening and three British raiders are heading over to contest them. Gordon Elliott is sending a lightly raced individual over to Ascot and Sam England’s 50 per cent strike-rate at Hexham this season makes her representatives well worth a closer look. Four-race maiden Hidden Gift represents the Richard & Peter Fahey yard she was a respectable fifth behind Libertango and Sun Goddess in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. it’s a concern that she wasn’t able to win a weak novice at Beverley when last seen however.
Shimmering Sun was a winner on debut and this will be her second Listed raid in Ireland, as she finished second in this grade at Naas back in July. Runner-up in a Kempton Group 3 when last seen, she brings some fair form to the table and looks capable of at least making the frame.
Kevin Philippart De Foy will be represented by Nicely in the Star Appeal Stakes and she has won two of her five starts so far. It remains to be seen if she’s up to competing at this level, having been well beaten in both starts in Group 3 company, but there could be more to come.
Hygge is very lightly raced on the Flat and the four-year-old managed to get off the mark at the first time of asking, landing a Killarney maiden back in May. The son of Persian King was an impressive winner of a 7f handicap at Laytown last time out and Colin Keane has been booked for the ride.
Banderas has only had six starts over hurdles so far and only three of those have come in handicap company. He was a comfortable winner here over 2m4f last time out and provided the shorter trip isn’t an issue, the six-year-old has the scope to progress further in this sphere.
Glory And Honour is probably a better chaser than hurdler but he was a short head away from winning over timber at Sedgefield on his penultimate start, which bodes well for a big run.
