Friday’s highlights: €2,300,000 debutant, Elliott’s Cartmel runners and the stat of the day

We’ve got a busy Friday ahead of us, with seven fixtures taking place across Britain and Ireland, and we’ve picked out some of the day’s key angles. There are a couple of very expensive purchases lining up, including a €2,300,000 purchase for Aidan O’Brien at the Curragh, Gordon Elliott’s Cartmel runners needs to go under consideration and there’s an interesting jockey stat at Doncaster. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Expensive runners out on Friday

The Coolmore boys went to €2,300,000 to capture Abraham Lincoln and the son of Wootton Bassett has a smashing pedigree. He’s a half-brother to Highbury, who finished second in the Queen’s Vase on just his third start and is probably going to want longer trips in the long run with that in mind. Ryan Moore has picked him over two stablemates and it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on over 6f.

Amo Racing have spent a serious amount of cash in recent years and they forked out 2,500,000 guineas for Alpinara, who is a full-sister to Arc winner Alpinista. She struggled on debut at Newbury last autumn but should improve drastically for the step up to 1m4f on her first start at three.

Gordon Elliott’s Cartmel raid

Gordon Elliott already has already landed a couple of winners at Cartmel this season and he’s set to send another two runners over on Friday. Loch Cuan landed a course and distance maiden hurdle by three lengths last time out and he looks well set to follow up in a weak affair here.

Gerrys Wish came very close to getting off the mark when second by narrow margins at Perth and Galway in the autumn. He looked badly in need of the run at Sligo last month and the drop back in trip should also help his chances this time around.

Stat of the day

Edward Greatrex has an eye-catching strike-rate of 67 per cent at Doncaster so far this season, with four winners from six rides, and he will be on board Regional Rock for Ralph Beckett. The son of Territories won nicely on debut at Windsor last term and looks like the one to beat on form.
