French 1000 Guineas: Tips, Runners & Odds (Monday 3.25pm)

Teppal wins the Poule D'Essai Des Pouliches

With both the French 1000 Guineas and French 2000 Guineas to be run at Deauville on Monday and coinciding with the return of British racing, it promises to be an explosive start to the week for horse racing fans.

This looks like a clash to savour as bookmakers reckon it’s Tropbeau versus Simeen. In other words, Andre Fabre versus Jean-Claude Rouget.

Legendary trainer Fabre sets the standard. Tropbeau has won this season and will relish the flat expanses of Deauville plays having won there last summer. Fabre also runs Tickle Me Green.

Simeen looked a proper revelation when extending her 100 per cent record in a Chantilly conditions race. Rouget has won the Pouliches four times in 11 years and is very sweet on Simeen making it five in 12.

Of the others, Dream And Do is a Group winner while Marieta is interesting. She looked to be outstayed by Albigna on testing ground in a Group 1 race on Arc day.

French 1000 Guineas Odds

Tropbeau is a best-priced 2-1 favourite with Simeen as short as 3-1 with Dream And Do a general 7-1 chance. Marieta is as big as 12s.

Scott Burton writes: Simeen is the only unbeaten filly in the line-up  and, although she is yet to face high-class opposition, she has given every indication that she is a Group 1 horse in the making. Her trainer Jean-Claude Rouget has an excellent record, having won the French version of the 1,000 Guineas four times in the last 11 years, including a hat-trick between 2014 and 2016
