York’s Ebor Festival is one of the most important fixtures during the summer period and Day 2’s card on Thursday is set to be a cracker. Ryan Moore’s recent strike-rate is unreal so we’ve highlighted some of his better chances, some course specialists to follow and some intriguing Irish raiders of note. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Livenka beat nine-length maiden winner Star Of State, who also runs here, by a comfortable margin at Fairyhouse and looks like a classy filly who can compete at this level. Ger Lyons’ runner bolted up in the valuable Ballyhane Stakes at Naas recently and looks potentially overpriced here.
Sun Goddess looks very difficult to oppose in the valuable sales race, having won the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes on her most recent start. A similar effort would surely make the daughter of Sioux Nation hard to beat and Aidan O’Brien is the best trainer of two-year-olds in the business.
Johanna Walsh won the Irish Oaks in good style last time out and is clearly an improving filly. Joseph O’Brien is having an excellent season and it would be no surprise if his filly takes another step forward.
Leading jockey Ryan Moore rarely misses at the big meetings and he has been operating at a very healthy strike-rate in recent weeks. He rides Sun Goddess in the second race, Minnie Hauk in the Yorkshire Oaks and Morrophore in the Galtres Stakes, all three of which have good chances on Thursday. Bint Archange has an each-way chance in the opener so don’t rule her out either.
Big Negotiator appears to be significantly overpriced here, having previously won at Listed level, and she won her maiden over course and distance too.
Andrew Balding’s The Lost King returned to winning ways with a comfortable success in a course and distance handicap last month and there could be more to come from the lightly raced gelding.
Minnie Hauk hasn’t been at her best so far this season but she ran a cracker to finish second in the Arc last season. She landed this very race last year on her sole start at the track and won’t be far away.
