There’s few horses in training who have shown a greater aptitude to a particular set of conditions than Cyrname and Ascot’s two-miles-five. He’s unbeaten in three starts at the Berkshire track since stepping up in trip, bolting up twice last season before toppling Altior in November.

Paul Nicholls’ stable star returns to Ascot this Saturday in the Ascot Chase, a race he won last year by seventeen-lengths. He’s a warm order with most bookmakers, and for good reason. Betway are offering a huge 40/1 for all new customers that the eight-year-old will do the business.

How Can I Claim the 40/1 Offer?

All new customers have to do is sign up with betway. Then, deposit £/€10 and place a bet on Cyrname at the regular odds displayed on site.

Betway will then aim to top up your winnings to 40/1 within an hour of bets settling, but it may take up to 24 hours.

New customers must stake at least £/€1 on Cyrname. Only £/€1 of the stake will enhance to 40/1, with the rest of the bet settled at the starting price.

Will He Win?

There’s every reason to think so. He’s proven deadly over Ascot’s two-miles-five in recent seasons. Back in January 2019, he made all in decisive fashion in a course and distance handicap, recording a twenty-one length success.

A step up to Grade One company posed no problem the following month. Sent off 3/1 for last year’s renewal, Harry Cobden’s charge was once more impossible to peg back from the front. He had a high class field featuring Waiting Patiently and Fox Norton in trouble from a long way out, barely having to be ridden out to score by seventeen-lengths.

Even the previously unbeaten Altior couldn’t live with him in the Christy 1965 Chase on their respective reappearances this November. A horse who had spent much of his previous career over two-miles failed to match his destructive speed from the front. Cyrname confirmed his supremacy with a cosy three-length success.

Officially the highest rated chaser in training, he went off the 5/4 favourite for the King George. A switch away from his beloved Ascot saw him below his best, finishing second to stablemate Clan Des Obeaux. That was still a hugely creditable effort behind an impressive winner on his first go over three-miles. A return to two-miles-five and Ascot should see him return to his very best. If that happens, he should have too much for his three rivals.

Riders Onthe Storm

A switch to Nigel Twiston-Davies worked wonders for the son of Scorpion, who landed a competitive handicap at Aintree on stable debut. He then made light work of a Graduation Chase over track and trip in December. Travelling strongly throughout, he proved far too good for his four rivals on testing ground.

That was a taking success, and he’s only going in one direction and that’s upwards. However he has a mountain to climb on these terms, rated fifteen pounds inferior to Cyrname. This is his toughest assignment yet, tackling a hugely destructive front-runner who thrives at Ascot.

Janika

Nicky Henderson’s charge looked one to follow when landing the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance at Exeter. He’s regressed in three starts since though, twice trailing home behind Defi Du Seuil either side of a tame effort over hurdles. His limitations have been thoroughly exposed, and he should struggle to live with Cyrname.

Traffic Fluide

Gary Moore’s handicapper returns to action for the first time since November 2018. He recorded a narrow success in a Grade Three handicap over three-miles at Ascot then on good ground. He showed a game attitude to score, but that effort suggests he’s going to struggle to live with the pace of things over two-miles-five. Now ten-years-old, he’s more than entitled to need this, and even at his very best, he would struggle.
